TORCH screening of newborns
Asymptomatic newborns do not benefit from screening for congenital infections, although in some European countries and some U.S. states are practicing universal screening for toxoplasmosis.
Screening for congenital TORCH infections with the bacterium of TORCH tests is costly and has a reduced intake to diagnosis.
The generally adopted attitude is to test newborn patients with suspicion of congenital infection for specific etiologic agents from clinical manifestations.
