The surface antigen of the hepatitis B virus (HBSAG) is a component of the external coating of hepatitis B Virionului. Infected people present in the blood, in addition to the infectious viral particles, and other smaller, non-infectious particles containing Such hbsag. The antigenic determinant against which the immune response is triggered is common to all AgHBs1 particles.
HBsAg Detection in serum indicates the presence of hepatitis B virus infection is the first immunological marker of the infection, being present in serum a few weeks before the clinical onset of the disease (jaundice). HBsAg remains detectable for a period of 1-4 months during an acute infection, after which it is negative. If HBSAG persists for more than 6 months, the infection is considered to have been cronicizat1; 2. Approximately 5-10% of adults and 90% of newborns cannot remove the virus after infection and become chronic carriers of HBSAG. One third of HBSAG-bearing patients develop chronic hepatitis that over time may evolve towards hepatic cirrhosis and, in some cases, to hepatocelular2 carcinoma.
The vertical transmission of the infection, from mother to fetus, occurs in approximately 20% of pregnant women with positive HBSAG and approximately 60% of women who acquire primary infection during pregnancy. Because the rate of vertical transmission of HBV infection is different depending on the geographical area and type of population, the predisposition for utero infection would be influenced by the viral strain and the genetic structure of the population. Pregnant women detected with positive HBSAG require further investigation. Of the tests available for HBV, the viral load became the best predictive factor of infectivităţii, especially for pregnant women near the term.
