Mother infections during pregnancy are an important cause of mortality and maternal-fetal morbidity. Infections with maternal-fetal transmission (that can pass from mother to fetus) can be transmitted at different stages of pregnancy:
· Transplacentar (during pregnancy evolution),
· Perinatal (through blood, vaginal discharge during delivery)
· Postnatal (most often through breast milk, but also through close contact after birth).
Clinical manifestations (symptoms) and effects on the fetus vary depending on the microorganism and the gestational age at the time of exposure (number of weeks of pregnancy), the most serious being the teratogenic effects (the occurrence of fetal malformations).
